Do you need a dehumidifier?

humidity

East Texas is hot and humid; There’s no denying that. It’s one of the main features of our wonderful home. But when the mugginess gets too much and you retreat inside, sometimes it follows you. Your AC unit indeed acts as a dehumidifier as it cools the air in your home. It was not designed solely for that reason, and so a dehumidifier might be needed.

Few things can cause your home to be humid. The obvious one is the general climate humidity. The other is not as obvious. If your AC unit is too large for your home then it will have an easier time cooling the house before the condenser coils have removed all the humidity.

What are the benefits of having a dedicated full home dehumidifier?

Your comfort is a major factor in this decision. Most people feel as comfortable in 78-degree air that has been properly dehumidified as in 70-degree air that is too humid. This has an added benefit greatly reducing your energy bills. Your AC unit does not have to work near as hard if you are comfortable at 78 rather than 70.

Dehumidifiers tend to cost somewhere between $200 to $400 and need very little maintenance. Adding one to your current system is not difficult. They do need a drain pipe, but this is usually tied into the same one as the existing AC unit.
